(This contains some but not all of the conditions we support)

Unexplained Infertility

A diagnosis of unexplained infertility can be frustrating.  Even when no medical condition can be found with medical testing, acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help improve fertility by creating subtle changes to your cycle.

These can impact egg quality, quantity, uterine lining, hormone balance and overall reproductive health that increase your chances of conception.

Hormone Imbalances

Diet, lack of sleep, and stressful lifestyles can wreak havoc on our hormones in multiple ways. Stress can lead to hormone changes in the body, can divert blood away from organs, including those associated with the digestive and reproductive systems. Since many hormones are dependent upon one another to remain balanced, over time, excess levels of stress can lead to imbalances in reproductive hormones, potentially effecting fertility.

Acupuncture has been shown to offset the effects of stress on reproductive hormones and increase blood flow to reproductive organs. In conjunction with Chinese herbs, acupuncture can help your body regain hormonal balance and create a healthy environment for conception.

Irregular Menses

Periods that come irregularly each month are very common and can make it difficult to conceive. Even if you are not trying to have a baby, Chinese medicine considers a regular menstrual rhythm to be an important sign of good health.

Irregular menses can be caused by an imbalance that results in hormone fluctuations throughout the month. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years to balance hormones, restore rhythm, and encourage predictable ovulation, which helps regulate the menstrual cycle and increase chances of conception.

Anovulation is when the ovaries do not release an egg during a menstrual cycle.  A woman who does not ovulate at each menstrual cycle is not necessarily going through menopause. Chronic anovulation is a common cause of infertility that can be corrected with acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can “jump start” your hormones and regulate them similarly to that of Follicle Stimulating Hormone medications that western medicine providers often prescribe, thus increasing your chances of conception.

Male Factor Infertility

Male factor infertility accounts for 40% of couples struggling to conceive. Studies have shown acupuncture can help improve sperm count, motility, and morphology.

Treatments that affect sperm quality in Chinese medicine can take a minimum of 3-4 months.  That is why we have created a pre-conception program for men as well, to increase chances of conception and a safe and healthy pregnancy.

Clinical research has demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture used in conjunction with IVF, demonstrating up to 50% increase in success rate with acupuncture vs. without.  Acupuncture works by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs during the stimulation phase of IVF, improving the uterine lining and the quality and quantity of eggs.

Acupuncture relaxes the uterus and minimizes uterine spasm after embryo transfer increasing the likelihood the transfer is successful.  Acupuncture also reduces stress, calms anxiety, and offsets side-effects of fertility medications

During an IUI cycle, acupuncture can help increase conception rates by increasing blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, improve the uterine lining and promote follicular growth.  Acupuncture helps to address uterine spasm during the time of potential implantation and can treat side effects that arise from  fertility medications.
